Governance and Contacts
DSEA’s engagement with society is supported by a clear governance framework that combines strategic direction, academic expertise and professional organisational support.
This framework enables the Department to coordinate initiatives across its different areas of activity, maintain high academic and institutional standards, and develop transparent and reliable relationships with external stakeholders.
Public institutions, organisations, professional bodies, schools and civil-society actors can approach DSEA through clearly identified contact points and work with the Department to transform an initial need or idea into a well-defined collaborative project.
Third Mission Governance
Responsibility for the strategic direction of Third Mission is formally assigned by the Director of the Department to a dedicated Departmental Lead for Third Mission.
The role provides a recognised point of institutional responsibility and supports the integration of Third Mission activities into the Department’s overall strategy.

The Director holds overall institutional responsibility for the Department’s strategy, governance and external relations.
Departmental Lead for Third Mission - Prof. Silvia Sedita
Appointed by the Director of the Department, the Departmental Lead for Third Mission provides strategic direction for DSEA’s engagement with society and coordinates the Third Mission Area Committee. The role includes promoting coherent priorities, supporting the development of new initiatives, strengthening relationships with external stakeholders and encouraging the integration of research, education, knowledge transfer and Public Engagement.
Third Mission Committee
The Third Mission Committee supports the Departmental Lead in translating DSEA’s strategic priorities into coordinated programmes, projects and initiatives. The Committee brings together members of the teaching staff and professional services staff. This cross-functional composition ensures that academic quality, societal relevance, organisational feasibility, communication, stakeholder engagement and impact assessment are considered throughout the development of each initiative.

Strategic priorities
For the 2026–2028 period, DSEA aims to strengthen public engagement and social impact, consolidate strategic partnerships, enhance knowledge transfer, develop lifelong and executive education, expand alumni engagement and embed Ethics, Responsibility and Sustainability across its activities.
