dSEA Lectures series: “The International Tax and Zakat Framework in Saudi Arabia: Challenges and Strategic Considerations from a Legal Standpoint”
We are pleased to welcome Ahmed A. Altawyan, Associate Professor of Tax Law at the Saudi Electronic University - SEU, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and Visiting Professor at dSEA Unipd, as guest speaker for this lecture series as part of the International Taxation Law course, taught by Prof. Marcello Poggioli, included in our Bachelor's degree in Economics (Corso di laurea in Economia TrEC).
In this seminar, Ahmed A. Altawyan will provide students with an introduction to the dual-income tax system in Saudi Arabia (KSA), governed by both Income Tax and the religious obligation of Zakat.
This series of 3 lectures will offer insights into the legal and judicial framework of the KSA and its ongoing efforts to shape its tax rules in line with the highest international standards, such as the adoption of Transfer Pricing Guidelines inspired by the OECD. A key focus will be on the challenges surrounding the inclusion of Zakat in international tax treaties, the high volume of tax disputes, and proposed reforms to achieve a unified corporate tax system that treats Zakat as a deductible expense.
