Ethics, Responsibility, and Sustainability in Research

The research mission of dSEA is to advance knowledge across various research areas with the goal of generating a tangible impact on society. The Department promotes research that directly focuses on ERS themes, addressing fields such as environmental sustainability, corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, consumer behavior, and ethical issues.

dSEA staff endorses UNIPD Code of Research Integrity which is addressed to all researchers affiliated with the University and outlines the principles of ethical and professional responsibility, honesty, and integrity that must be respected in all phases of research, whether conducted individually or in a group.

  Funded projects

Several of dSEA’s funded projects are focused on ERS themes. The Extended Partnership GRINS – Growing Resilient, INclusive and Sustainable, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza – PNRR) where dSEA is involved as partner, addresses the economic and financial sustainability of systems and territories.

In line with the ERS-focused research strategy of dSEA, several faculty members have successfully presented research projects to the 2022 edition of the Research Projects of National Interest (PRIN) competitive programme funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), to conduct research on topics such as education, health and human well-being, firms’ resilience, environmental and urban sustainability, and inequality.

  Publications

dSEA faculty members actively disseminate ERS-relevant research findings in high impact journals such as Journal of Labor Economics, Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, Journal of organizational behaviour, Resource and Energy Economics and Journal of Health Economics. A selection of the Department publications is available on these pages:

  Research Groups

Three dSEA research labs focus on studies related to ERS themes:

  • CRIME – Center for Research in Business, Mafia, and Economics: A multidisciplinary lab that analyzes mafia infiltration in Italian businesses, promoting cutting-edge data analysis and artificial intelligence approaches to describe, understand, and address emerging research issues with significant socioeconomic implications.
  • BOL – Behavioral Operations Lab: This lab combines analytical tools, literature, and various methodologies to better understand how a factory's organizational context influences the behavioral aspects of managers and operators, and how these factors impact performance outcomes.
  • GFS – Governance and Strategic Philanthropy in Italian Foundations: This research group has conducted four national surveys on Italian grant-making foundations with the aim of studying the theoretical model of strategic philanthropy in the Italian context.
