Title: "Conflict in the pool: A field experiment on valuation, scarcity, and strength"

Abstract:  We present evidence from a field experiment in swimming pools, in which we induce conflict over a scarce resource in an environment with no positive externalities from conflict. In particular, we examine how agents react to various incentives in order to test whether theoretical considerations and evidence from the economic lab generalize to the field. In line with theory, we find that the value of the prize, the scarcity of the resource, and the strength of the opponent all have a significant impact on the intensity of conflict.
